Icelandic band the Sugarcubes was formed in 1988 and led by Bjork.

One of the better bands ever to come out of Iceland, however, in a recent national poll to choose the best Icelandic band of the last 100 years the winner was Sigur Ros (Victory Rose). I wouldn't argue with that choice.
